    Netzero stinks!
Reviewer: Anonymous       07-28-2007
I just recently switched to high speed internet with another company. I called NetZero to cancel my account and you would have thought I asked them to shit a brick through something! I got some foreign guy with a thick accent and could hardly understand him. Anywho, I stayed on the phone and played pussy foot with that idiot for nearly 20 minutes while he TRIED to talk me into some kind of free

How often is the ISP down or unaccessible? Once or more every week
How often is a busy signal encountered? During peak and non-peak hours
How often is unexpected disconnection encountered? About once or twice a week
How often does connection "die out" and a reconnection is needed? About once or twice a month

    Changes with time.

I have had NetZero.net since (1998 or 99) it was unlimited free usage to 10 hours a month free and then upgraded to their $9.95 plan. The service has recently degraded to the point that I am looking for another ISP. I just hat to loose my old email account that everyone knows

    Highspeed Good
Reviewer: philinvegas       01-18-2007
Hi, I just wanted to give you all my impression of Netzero Highspeed 3G. I recently reflected on my world of cable/broadband. I found myself deciding that it was out of control and needed some change. My bill for both was $120.00 a month for services that I seldom used. Broadband was $40 a month. I looked at the alternatives and decided on Netzero. I have worked in technical support so I have computer knowledge perhaps above most. So far I have found Netzero to be a viable alternative to broadband. Testing Netzero on an independent bandwidth meter is an interesting experiment. Type "CNET Bandwidth test" into any search engine and you can find out your speed. Ok, I just did it and here are my results. A standard dial up is 56K of course. My results are 312.2 kbps. The first DSL after that is rated at 384 kbps. So how does it acclerate? I turned the image quality way down (if I want to view the picture I right click on it and choose "full quality".) I also purchased a V.92 modem as part of the equation. The software as part of the modem regarding the "modem on hold" portion was somewhat lacking, but I suppose if I had paid more than $5.93 for it, that part might be better *lol*. Also, I found that I had to "tweak" the settings, but all those "tweaks" are on the technical page of Netzero. A major factor in this or quite frankly anything you put in your computer is the following. How clean is your computer? I run multiple programs to keep it clean. ZoneAlarm for a firewall and a great free program from Avast! that has seven different resident protection programs, again, do a search to learn more about how it protects/cleans your computer. I also have pop-up blockers etc. I again had to "tweak" it a bit to work seamlessly with Netzero but nothing absurd. Another factor you must take into consideration is this: what is your computer? My results may not be the same as yours simply due to the processing speed/memory you have. For the record, my computer is home built with a MSI 6800LE motherboard, a AMD Athlon 1600 CPU and 512MB of RAM. That certainly is not "state of the art" by any means. If you are still reading this, kudos to you! *lol* I find Netzero to be a viable alternative to broadband, and my download speed is about 6-10 kbps. Again, dependent on whose servers I'm downloading from. So, I went to basic cable ($9.00 a month) joined Intelliflix DVD rental for $8.25 a month and Netzero for $9.95 a month. Total savings-over $1100 a year. It is up to you to decide if it is worth it, IMHO it is.

Netzero is a total Zero. Get knocked off all the time. Have high speed and it is like a turtle. Am on this site hunting for something else.

    SLow
Reviewer: garcurt5       01-09-2007
Downloads are slow, but aren't they all? After an hour or so of use, I always got a message that the connection was lost for unknown reasons. Online tech help was useless, the pay help's only suggestion was to upgrade to a higher priced plan. I got tired of getting disconnected with no clue as to why. Am searching for a better ISP now, that will at least attempt to solve the problem.

    Leaving Them
Reviewer: shermb1       01-08-2007
I am in the process of leaving this provider. Dialup performance was good for dialup in the beginning. But performance has degraded so badly in the past several months, that I can't take it any longer. I am paying for their server to ignore me for long periods of time. Very slow and frustrating. I am moving to some other service.

    Same Thing
Reviewer: jonxobart       01-07-2007
I have experienced the same thing all of you have. I, also will begin a search for "something that lives up to it's claims"

    Dont use
Reviewer: caroleturley       01-05-2007
I detest this service. I cant use my email address because it was so deluged with spam... I am on this service for the second time and I am always getting disconnected from online and it screws up my phone line where my callerID doesn't work nor my call waiting. I have nothing but probs with netzero! HATE IT and their customer service pp are rude. You also have to REALLY watch your credit card bill when you get rid of em cause they try to charge you for an extra month at the end. HORRIBLE PROVIDER

    Very fast dial up Access
Reviewer: Smith       01-01-2007
NetZero provide very fast dial up access, it does this mainly through faster phone lines than it's competitors, and through compression technology. Every Internet Service Provider offers its members Internet access; NetZero uses special dialing software to ensure quality connections. Any Internet connection that uses a telephone line is considered a "Dial-up Connection." While there are several ways for people to connect to the Internet, NetZero is focused mainly on providing members with Dial-Up connections. Although there are also different ways of establishing a dial-up connection to the Internet, NetZero has made it easier by providing you with easy-to-follow steps in setting up and establishing your connection. Make sure to always use the NetZero software to login by simply clicking the Connect button from the main Logon screen.
